This 1970 Camaro Z28 was purchased by the third owner in the summer of 1979 in Regina, Sk. At the time of purchase the odometer read 56,000 miles. The car still retains its original 12 Bolt 3.73 rear end and M22 heavy duty transmission. The original block was vandalized with sand blasting sand in the gas tank in the late '70s, a new LT1 block was installed at around 35,000 miles and all the old engine components such as the original heads, intake, valve covers, alternator, power steering pump and distributor all were moved over to the new block. The block is an 010 LT1 and dated May of 1976.
In the last 30 years of ownership the third owner had only put on a handful of miles and moved the car several times, from Regina to Vancouver in 1994, Vancouver to Calgary in 1996 and then to Vancouver Island in 2010 when he retired and the car currently has 63,000 miles.
The Camaro was re-painted the original Mulsanne Blue in about 1977, at the time they added white stripes, the car came from the factory with black.
We purchased this Camaro in June 2016 from the third owner. In the process now of correcting and making some components right. We are still deciding on a direction for this car, do we just clean it up and drive it or do we put the car through a full restoration...more to follow.
As this Camaro was sold new in Canada we were able to contact GM Vintage Car Services and order a copy of the GM Canada docs which show how the car was equipped when it was imported for sale in 1970.
